What we write

Through AretoHealth Education, we write continuing medical education for accredited CME providers, medical education companies, specialty societies and health systems.

  • Needs assessments and grant proposals
  • Slide decks and case-based learning modules
  • Outcomes reports

Our subject areas are acute care surgery, orthopedics, primary care, internal medicine, wound care and lifestyle medicine.

We are also developing our own continuing education courses and study products for clinicians, and through AretoHealth Clinical Tools we are building clinical decision support and literature review software for medical practices.

We do not accept drug or device manufacturers as clients, and we provide no patient care.

Clinical review

Ramsay Hunt Syndrome in a Consumer Article

A physician-reviewed consumer article tells readers they have 7 days to start treatment, but outcomes are best when treatment starts within 3 days. The review ranks each finding by the harm it could cause and rewrites the two passages most likely to hurt a reader, and the marked-up excerpt shows those edits as tracked changes.

Patient education

Ramsay Hunt Syndrome: Your First Two Weeks

A two-page handout for newly diagnosed patients. It starts with when to take the medicine and how to protect the eye. Hearing and recovery come next, and the last section tells patients when to call 911.

Composite case report

Geriatric Trauma Missed Injury: Retropharyngeal Hematoma After a Cervical Spine Fracture

A 77-year-old man falls at his assisted living facility and is admitted for presumed syncope, and six hours later he develops stridor and is intubated. The report traces how the cervical fracture was missed and recommends four practice changes. The case is a composite of several similar patients.

Evidence review

Central Venous Catheter Insertion and Ultrasound Guidance

Ultrasound guidance clearly helps at the internal jugular vein, where a Cochrane review of 35 trials found 71% fewer complications. At the subclavian and femoral veins the gains are smaller and the trials weaker. The review recommends ultrasound as the default for every internal jugular line.

Usability test plan

Testing a Patient Information Page on a Rare Disease

A plan to test whether clinicians and lay readers can each find practical help on a patient page and understand what they read. It sets out the tasks, a readability checklist built on the Federal Plain Language Guidelines and a user survey, along with how the two groups' ratings will be compared.
